Hotel technology is on the rise, and so are investments in technology budgets. A new survey from Hotel Technology, shows that hotels are increasing their technology budgets by an average of 4.9% of revenue, with mid-scale chains being the biggest spenders at 6.6% and economy and luxury only 3.5%. There is no doubt this rise correlates with guests preferring access to mobile options and tech-savvy hospitality.
The survey shows customer-facing mobile solutions to be the top tech priority. But other notable upgrades include: adding bandwidth, preparing for changes in payment technology, securing data, and migrating to the cloud.
Technological progress is surpassing hotels' ability to keep up. Managing ROI on new technologies and cultural resistance to technology are among the top tech challenges hotels are facing.
